Writing ResourcesJanuary 15, 2009 at 8:19 am by Blair I've been getting questions on resources to help people improve their writing skills. Here are some that I and others use. Feel free to add to the list.
Rick Landesberg suggests On Writing Well, by William Zinsser.
"I saw him speak about 15 years ago at an AIGA conference. It's one of those wonderful books that you can open at any part and glean insight. I’ve revisited it many times."
I've not read it but on Rick's recommendation I intend to pick it up. Over one million copies sold.
For years I've kept handy a copy of Strunk & White's classic handbook on grammar and punctuation, The Elements of Style. (That's E.B. White of Charlotte's Web fame, and his son-in-law William Strunk) Decades after it's first publication, many editions exist. The link above will take you to the current 50th Anniversary edition.
Three years ago Lynne Truss wrote a surprising best seller on punctuation, Eats, Shoots & Leaves. Equally as surprising is the fact that this helpful resource is hilarious and an enjoyable, easy read.
Let me know if anything else should be added to this list. Tags: writing (3) |
