Reading The WWP Manifesto on Your Mobile Device

Including iPad, iPhone, Android and Kindle

July 14, 2010 at 3:22 pm by Blair

The Win Without Pitching Manifesto is available for free reading online here, but it can also be downloaded (for $19) for reading on your computer in PDF format or on your phone or other mobile device in epub format. This post explains how to get the book onto your device.

When you complete the purchase on the site you'll see two links on the Order Confirmation page: one for the PDF and one for the epub. Download them both.

Reading the PDF on your computer is straightforward. The other devices I'll cover individually.

iPad

Simply drag the files into iTunes/Books, sync your iPad and voila – you’ll see it on your bookshelf in iBooks, the default reader that comes preloaded on your iPad. iPad now supports PDF formats too, so either format will work.

iPhone/iPod Touch

There’s a simple way and a more difficult way to get the ebook onto your iPhone. The simple way I’ll cover here and the more difficult way I’ll cover below, as it’s also the way to get the book onto other devices that are not iTunes reliant.

The simple way is to ensure that you are running the latest operating system, iOS 4, which launched June 21st, 2010. iOS 4 supports the iBooks app which comes preloaded on the iPad. For the iPhone however, you need to visit the app store and download iBooks for iPhone. It’s free.

Once you’re running iOS 4 and you’ve installed the iBooks app, drag the epub file into the Books section of iTunes. (While iBooks for iPhone does support PDF, the Manifesto doesn’t make for great reading in this format on an iPhone. Stick with the epub.) Now sync your phone and you’ll see The Win Without Pitching Manifesto on your bookshelf in iBooks.

Other Non-Apple Devices

Most other devices require a third party e-reader and there are many to chose from. The most common are Barnes & Noble's eReader (for multiple platforms) and Aldiko for Android. If you want to cross-platform across multiple devices and formats then you should have a look at the ebook library management tool, Calibre.

Getting the epub into the readers varies by reader, so you’ll have to follow the links above and read up on it. All of my own electronic devices have Apple logos on them, so if you've got some advice on the easiest way to get ebooks onto other platforms, feel free to make suggestions.

Kindle

There are no plans for a Kindle version of the Win Without Pitching Manifesto, but Calibre will convert an epub to Kindle’s format, as will other epub conversion tools.

Happy mobile reading.
